3 Business Books | September

It’s been a while, but I’m back with 3 more books that I’ve read, learned from and recommend for other business leaders out there. Don’t forget, I’m happy to post these books and more to you. And then we can talk about them afterwards, if you like. Sign up here and I’ll send you a book every month.

Never Eat Alone

This book by Keith Ferrazzi is all about building relationships and using the power of your network to go far. As with many business books, there are plenty of stories the author shares, but once you cut through those, some of the principles and ideas are really quite important. Some of the things he suggests you may already be doing - I was - and others might be out of your reach (I don’t see myself being invited to the World Economic Forum in Davos anytime soon). Nonetheless, the book is a wake-up call and the kick we all need to start investing more in our relationships.

What Every Body Is Saying

A book on body language by former FBI agent Joe Navarro. What I liked about this book is that it doesn’t pretend to give you quick wins - rules for body language. At no point does Navarro say, “any instance of blinking whilst answering indicates lying and any time a girl touches her hair means she likes you”. Rather, he speaks about patterns that indicate general feelings - such as comfort and discomfort - that the apt analyst can interpret appropriately. As business leaders, being aware of these patterns and behaviours can allow us not only to better interpret others’ body language (in interviews, negotiations, sales and disputes) but also to control and optimise our own.

There’s No F In Sales

Simon Leslie is CEO and Co-Founder of Ink, the global travel media firm that reaches millions of travellers every year. Simon’s book, after 25 years in business, is an easy-to-read goldmine for sales, decision-making, motivation and more. Read about why Simon ran a double marathon across the Sahara desert and sent an employee to Singapore just before she quit her job in this all-cards-laid memoir. It’s education, inspiration and entertainment, all rolled into one.
